Roanoke Valley DEQ PM 2.5 Monitors and data:

Round Hill Montessori - Roanoke
Roanoke AQI PM 2.5 chart - tracks particulate matter by air quality index using the daily 24 hour average from the Round Hill Montessori monitor. This monitor began operation in the spring of 2005. Monthly AQI charts displaying graph of daily AQI for PM 2.5 and Ozone (ozone displayed from May to September).

The following monitors are used by US EPA to determine if the Roanoke Valley is in attainment for the PM 2.5 Health Standard of 15.0 ug/m3. If the 3-year average of the annual arithmetic mean is less than 15.0 ug/m3 then an area is determined to be in attainment (no violation of the health standard). | Annual and Quarter charts (updated 11/21/07)


Raleigh Court Library - Roanoke
This monitor began operation in 1999 when VA DEQ began the statewide PM 2.5 monitoring network.

Oakland Boulevard - Roanoke
This monitor began operation in October 2006. After analyzing the data from this monitor, VA DEQ may decide to remove the Raleigh Court monitor.

Market Street Fire Station - Salem
As of March 2006, VA DEQ has discontinued the Salem PM 2.5 monitor. The monitor was originally shut down to accomodate roof repairs. Then, several new big air conditioning units were installed on the roof. According to DEQ, these units prevented the operation of the PM 2.5 monitor at the fire station location.
